The Pressure Index

A live measurement of the machinery
built to police American speech.

Every number below is drawn from public records — Congress.gov, the Lobbying Disclosure database, USAspending.gov, CourtListener, and this coalition's own roster. When the record changes, this page changes. Nothing is scored. Nothing is weighted. Nothing is editorialized. Each row links to its source.

How this page works

What it measures

Five indicators of pressure on First Amendment freedoms. Each is a specific, countable public record — a bill's status, a committee's vote, a lobbying filing, a docket entry, a partner joining the coalition.

What it does not do

It does not score fear. It does not weight indicators against each other. It does not describe controls the bills would create — it counts what has been filed. The interpretation lives in the essays and case pages linked from each card.

Where the data comes from

Congress.gov and LegiScan for bills; the Senate Lobbying Disclosure database and USAspending.gov for money; CourtListener for litigation; this coalition's own roster for coalition figures. Each card links to its primary source.

How often it updates

JAWBONE is checked daily. Congressional bill sweeps, lobbying filings, and litigation dockets refresh on independent schedules ranging from daily to weekly. Every card shows the last time it was checked.

Corrections policy: errors will be corrected, dated, and preserved. If a number here disagrees with its primary source, the primary source wins — write to corrections@restorethe1st.com.
